The Origin Story

Twelve years of feathers,
ribbons, and trust.

Age 10

A kitchen sink and a Rhode Island Red

My grandmother handed me her prize hen and a bar of oatmeal soap. "Wash her like she's porcelain," she said. I didn't understand then why feathers needed to be dried one row at a time. I do now.

First Ribbon

Blue at the Hardin County Fair

Three years of mornings in the barn, learning to read a bird's mood before touching a single feather. Our Wyandotte took first in her class. The judge said she looked "professionally presented." I was sixteen.

First Client

A neighbor's Silkie, a soft toothbrush, and coconut oil

Maya's Silkie had a dull, matted crest three days before her first 4-H show. We worked for two hours β€” feather by feather β€” with warm water, a baby toothbrush, and cold-pressed coconut oil. She won Reserve Champion. Plume was born that afternoon.

The Craft

Vent cleaning, spur filing, feather conditioning

Every bird that comes to Plume gets a full inspection β€” vent health, leg scale condition, feather structure, comb clarity. We use food-grade oils, mineral leg balm, and show-legal comb wax. No shortcuts. The judge will see every choice you made.

The Plume Difference

See the transformation.
